What's On in Amsterdam June 2018

June sees the city's popular Holland Festival running for most of the month.

Museums & Exhibitions

Rijksmuseum – Reopened in April 2013 after 10 years of renovation, the Rijksmuseum's rich collection (including Rembrandt's Night Watch) is a must-see in Amsterdam.

Rijksmuseum Schiphol – Ten Dutch masterpiece paintings are on show on Holland Boulevard at Amsterdam Schiphol airport. Located in the newly refurbished zone between Lounges 2 and 3 (past security), the Rijksmuseum Schiphol is open 24 hours per day with free entry for passengers.

Van Gogh Museum Van Gogh & Japan, exhibition on how Vincent Van Gogh was inspired by Japanese prints. Expected 23 Mar to 24 Jun 2018.

Hermitage Amsterdam – New exhibition Classic Beauties featuring neo-classic art runs between 16 Jun 2018 and 13 Jan 2019. Also at the Hermitage: Outsider Art Museum includes world-class art works by Dutch and international outsider artists; and permanent exhibition Portrait Gallery of the Golden Age.

National Maritime MuseumGame Changers | Maritime Innovations, features 25 of the most beautiful, exciting and strangest inventions in Dutch maritime history. Runs 6 Oct 2017 to 1 Jul 2018.

Nieuwe Kerk World Press Photo is a photo exhibition showcasing the best in news photography. Runs April to July, 2018 dates unconfirmed.

National Holocaust Museum – The newly opened museum presents Tangible Memories from the Jewish Monument, exhibition of objects, photos and documents of people affected by the Holocaust. Ongoing until end 2019.

ARCAM – ARCAM presents a crash course (€7.50) on Amsterdam architecture and urbanism every Friday 1330-1415.

Body Worlds – Display of human body plastinate specimens at the permanent venue on Damrak. The exhibition focuses on happiness.

Tennis:
Ricoh Open – International grass court tournament (men’s ATP and women’s WTA) at the Autotron Rosmalen near Den Bosch, 1 hour south of Amsterdam. Used as a warm-up to Wimbledon for some players. 29th edition, 11-17 June 2018.

Athletics/Running:
Friday Night Run – a free monthly 1 hour run organised by running group Phanos. Meet at Olympic Stadium Amsterdam at 1930 on Friday 8 Jun 2018.

Gaasperplasrun – 1km, 2km, 5km and 10km runs around the Gaasperplaas, a lake in south-east Amsterdam. 24th edition scheduled for June 2018, date unconfirmed.

Ladiesrun Rotterdam – 5km, 7.5km and 10km running event for ladies only. 12th edition due June 2018, date unconfirmed.

Rugby:
Amsterdam Sevens – Annual international rugby sevens tournament with over 120 teams to be played at the National Rugby Centre, 8-10 Jun 2018.

Triathlon:
Tri Amsterdam – International triathlon event which offers half-distance and full Olympic distance courses around the Amstel river area. Expected June 2018, date unconfirmed.

MotorSport:
Dutch Moto GP – Popular motorcycle racing event held at the Assen TT circuit. 22-24 June 2018.

Inline Skating:
Friday Night Skate – a 20km organised skate around the streets of Amsterdam held every Friday night (20:30, weather permitting) from Vondelpark Pavilion (former Film Museum).

Holland Festival – The country’s biggest arts performance festival running most of June 2018, dates unconfirmed. The event includes theatre, visual arts, classical, dance, opera and film – attracting a high calibre performers both from Netherlands and internationally. Venues include the Carré Theatre, Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, Concertgebouw, Stadsschouwburg and Westergasfabriek.

Amsterdam Magic Show – Monthly magic and comedy show with international performers to be held at the cabaret-style theatre Paleis van de Weemoed in Amsterdam, Tuesday 5 Jun 2018 at 8pm.

Amsterdam Tattoo Convention – Event where tattoo artists from all over the world will gather for the 14th edition at Amsterdam RAI, expected 1-3 Jun 2018.

Open Garden Days – Some 30 private gardens in Amsterdam open their doors to the public – held on the weekend of 15-17 Jun 2018. A 3-day pass to all participating gardens can be bought at the Van Loon museum.

ITs Festival Amsterdam – International theatre school festival in Amsterdam held every June featuring the crop of the year’s theatre and dance graduates. The 29th edition of the festival is expected in Jun 2018.

Amsterdam Open Air – Outdoor electronic music festival, 8th edition expected to be held at Gaasperpark in Jun 2018.

Taste of Amsterdam – Food festival over 4 days at Amstelpark with various events held including lectures, cooking competitions and wine-tasting. Expected Jun 2018.

Dutch Raw Food Festival – Raw food event (6th year) with demonstrations, workshops and presentations – some in English. Location is the Boerderij Langerlust (farm) near the Gaasperplas in south-east Amsterdam. Expected Jun 2018.

Bacchus Wine Festival – Outdoor food and wine event in Amsterdamse Bos woods on the outskirts of the city. Over 2 consecutive weekends, expected Jun 2018.

YogaFest Amsterdam – A 2 day yoga festival in Amsterdam expected in Jun 2018 at Westergasfabriek.

Amsterdam Roots Festival – International music festival (21st edition expected Jun 2018) with indoor concerts running  at venues Melkweg, Tolhuistuin, Bimhuis and North Sea Jazz Club.

Toneelgroep Amsterdam – Amsterdam's renowned theatre company performs shows in Dutch which have live English surtitles above the stage - usually on Thursday evenings at the Stadsschouwburg theatre. Roman Tragedies is performed as part of Holland Festival on 15/16/20/21 2018 at 1800, 17 Jun 2018 at 1500.

Dutch National Opera & Ballet – Perform opera Les Contes d’Hoffmann (Offenbach), various between 3 Jun - 2 Jul 2018; opera Lessons in Love and Violence (Benjamin), various between 25 Jun - 5 Jul 2018; ballet Tristan + Isolde, various between 13-26 Jun 2018.

Boom Chicago – Comedy and improv shows in English generally held Wednesdays to Sundays at Rozentheater on Rozengracht.

De Balie – The multimedia venue near Leidseplein in Amsterdam hosts regular events about current affairs, politics and culture.

3D Print Canal House – See a canal house being constructed using 3D printing techniques and sustainable materials. The location is Asterweg 49, 1031 HM Amsterdam - get the free ferry across to Amsterdam North and walk beyond EYE Film. Visit by appointment only or take the walk-in tour (€7.50) which runs every first Wednesday of the month at 1500.

Mundial Festival 2018 – Major world music festival to be held in Spoorzone Tilburg during 23-24 Jun 2018. Tilburg is 90 minutes south by train from Amsterdam.

Bimhuis – Jazz venue has free "Workshop + Session" on Tuesdays at 2000.

Concertgebouw – Free lunchtime concert to be held 20 Jun 2018 at 1230.

Netherlands Opera/Ballet – Free lunchtime concert in the foyer on Tuesdays at 1230. Last concerts of the season on 5/12 Jun 2018. Performed by members of Opera Studio, the Netherlands Opera or Dutch Philharmonic orchestra.

Westerkerk – Free lunchtime organ concert every Friday at 1300.

Vondelpark open air theatre – Free concerts running during the weekend (Fri-Sun), from June to August.

Pure Markt – Regular market event with high quality produce, music, food stalls and other activities. Dates to be announced.

Sunday Market Sunday market with fashion, design, arts, food and kids stuff at Westergasfabriek. Dates to be announced.

Museum Market – Museumplein hosts this Sunday market with arts and crafts, food and music on 17 Jun 2018 from 1200-1800.
