Hermitage Amsterdam "Splendour and Glory Art of the Russian Orthodox Church" (until 16th September 2011). Van Gogh Museum "Stepping out in Montmartre: Prints of cafés and theatres" prints and theatre programmes by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Théophile-Alexandre Steinlen and Henri-Gabriel Ibels (to 11th September 2011). "Van Gogh in Antwerp and Paris: New Perspectives" (to 18th September). Rijksmuseum "Rembrandt & Degas" Exhibition looking at Rembrandt's influence on French impressionist Edgar Degas. Runs to 23rd October 2011. "Dick Bruna at the Rijksmuseum" Works of the prominent Dutch illustrator and children's author on display until August 29th.
Rijksmuseum Schiphol "Dutch Flowers" 9 flower paintings from the 17th century on show at the airport. Free entry, runs until 5th September 2011. Anne Frank House "Margot, Anne's sister" small temporary exhibition about the sister of Anne Frank. Runs to 15th September. Tropenmuseum "Soulscape Road" Black and white photo exhibition by Indonesian photographer Oscar Motuloh featuring Indonesia's natural disasters. Runs until 20th November 2011. Plus, guided architecture tour of the Tropenmuseum building every Sunday in August at 1300, costs €5 plus entrance fee. Amsterdam Museum "Buurtwinkels" A small exhibition on Amsterdam's local shops from the first supermarket Dirk van den Broek to ethnic food shops (ends 21st August 2011). Rembrandt House "Printed in Amsterdam Printmakers and Publishers in the Golden Age" runs until 18th September 2011. Allard Pierson Museum "No Admittance Secrets of the Egyptian temples" Runs to 14th August 2011. Jewish Historical Museum "From Dada to Surrealism" Jewish Avant-Garde Artists from Romania. Runs until 2nd October 2011. "Unguarded Moments" German photographer Marianne Breslauer captured unguarded moments in modern city life. Until 13th November 2011. FOAM Photo Museum "Solstice" photo exhibition of landscapes in northern Norway by Dutch photographer Misha de Ridder. Ends 28th August 2011. "Anton Corbijn - Inwards and Onwards" exhibition of striking portraits. Runs to 1st September 2011. Huis Marseille Photo Museum "Adam Fuss" exhibition of unique images runs to 4th September 2011. Bags & Purses Museum "Gabriella Ingram; the bag as a work of art in inspired combinations"runs to 9th October 2011. Grachten Festival "Canal festival"featuring young classical music performers at venues throughout Amsterdam. This year's theme is "Dance". 12th to 21st. August. Loveland Festival Big DJ dance festival event to be held at Sloterpark in the western suburbs of Amsterdam on 14th August. De Parade Travelling theatre festival which visits Rotterdam, the Hague, Utrecht and Amsterdam. The Amsterdam event will take place over 2 weeks at Martin Luther King park (Rivierenbuurt, take tram 25) where theatre tents will be set up and dozens of performances take place. Plenty of activities for kids as well. 5th to 21st August. Van Loon opera Pimpinone, a short opera in three acts composed by George Philip Telemann will be performed in the house garden. 17th-21st August at Museum van Loon. Uitmarkt Largest cultural festival (450 performances by 2,000 artists) in Netherlands taking place in Amsterdam centre. 3 main stages will be located at Museumplein, Leidseplein and Vondelpark. 26th to 28th August . Free. Sunday Market Sunday market with fashion, design, arts, food and kids stuff. Cultuurpark Westergasfabriek on 7th August (1200-1800). Mystery Land Festival Large festival event with 150 artists - from disco to hip-hop, dubstep to techno - to be held at the Floriade grounds, Haarlemmermeer on 27th August. Hans Klok's Circus Hurricane Magical show and international circus acts. Theater Carré, running throughout the month to 28th August. Harbour Festival Ijmuiden Free event in the port town of Ijmuiden, some 30 minutes from Amsterdam. Featuring street theatre, music concerts, film in a harbour setting. 27th-28th August. International Dog Show Event to be held at Ahoy Rotterdam on 27th-28th August. |

Boven NEMO Chill on the roof of the NEMO Science Museum (at Oosterdok 2) with cool views of Amsterdam. Ijburg Strand Blijburg aan Zee can be reached by tram 26 (end of the line) a real sandy beach on the Ij water. Strand West City beach pavilion located at Stavangerweg 900 in west Amsterdam near Houthavens (Westerpark). Strand Zuid City beach pavilion located at Europaplein 22 near Beatrixplein and RAI. Alternatively head over to real beaches at Zandvoort or Bloemendaal great to watch the sunset and have a meal on a summer evening.
