Museums in Amsterdam

Amsterdam has a wide variety of fascinating museums catering to different interests - from old Dutch masters at the Rijksmuseum, city history at the Amsterdam museum to children's fun at Nemo Science museum.

The "must-see" Van Gogh museum and Anne Frank house are very popular attracting long queues - purchasing your ticket in advance means you cut the line.

You should seriously consider getting the annual Museumkaart if you plan to visit a number of museums and want to cut costs significantly. Alternatively, the iamsterdam card is a scheme run by the tourist board which includes museum admissions and transport - but comes at a premium price.

Note that some the large museums in Amsterdam are undergoing major renovation - the Rijksmuseum (remains open) and the Stedelijk modern art museum (temporary exhibitions running). The Maritime museum re-opened in October 2011 and now has a fresh, modern feel.
