More than 62 million people have now visited Keukenhof, with around 1.4 million visitors each spring season.

Keukenhof Visitor Statistics

Keukenhof has grown from a regional flower exhibition into one of the most visited seasonal attractions in Europe. The figures below highlight the scale of the park and its visitor numbers today.

The 78th edition of Keukenhof runs 18 March to 9 May 2027 – meaning the gardens are open just 53 days in 2027.

In 2026, Keukenhof attracted around 1.4 million visitors, an average of about 26,500 per day. This represents the highest average daily attendance of any attraction in the Netherlands.

Keukenhof surpassed 60 million cumulative visitors during the 2025 season, and has reached around 62.2 million visitors since opening in 1950.

Around 20% of visitors are from the Netherlands, while 80% are international tourists. The largest visitor groups typically come from Germany, the United States, France and the United Kingdom.

Because the park is only open for a short spring season, visitor numbers are heavily concentrated into a few weeks during the peak tulip bloom in April.

Since the year 2000 alone, more than 25 million people have visited Keukenhof.

Facts About Keukenhof Gardens

Keukenhof contains around 7 million flowers – that is the equivalent of 1 flower for every woman aged over 20 living in the Netherlands.

It’s not only tulips at Keukenhof – in fact there are approximately 1,600 varieties of flowers which includes 800 varieties of tulips.

The bulbs are hand-planted strategically by a team of 40 gardeners during the autumn – to produce waves of blooming flowers throughout the spring season.

The park also has 2,500 trees with 100 tree species.

About 2,000 people work at Keukenhof when the park is open.

Keukenhof park is 32 hectares (320,000m² or 79 acres) in size.

In comparison, this is about half the size of Amsterdam’s Vondelpark, a quarter of the size of London’s Kew Gardens and about one tenth the size of New York’s Central Park.

There are 15km of walking paths around the park at Keukenhof.

The park has 6 indoor exhibition pavilions named after the Dutch royals – Willem-Alexander, Oranje-Nassau, Wilhelmina, Juliana, Beatrix and Irene.

Keukenhof Visitor Numbers Timeline

Below is a timeline of key milestones in Keukenhof’s visitor history based on archival research and historic newspaper reports compiled by AmsterdamTips.com.

• Keukenhof was opened on Thursday 23 March 1950.

• On its very first Sunday – 26 March 1950 – it received 10,000 visitors.
• Dutch Queen Juliana visited Keukenhof on Tuesday 2 May 1950 with Princesses Beatrix, Irene and Margriet.

• In the first 1950 season Keukenhof had a total of 325,000 visitors. This is widely inaccurately reported as 235,000 or 236,000 visitors – probably someone mixed the figures up at some point. Here is a local newspaper report from 6 May 1950 announcing Keukenhof passing its 300,000th visitor.

• Keukenhof had its 1 millionth visitor in around May 1952.
• In 1954 it surpassed 500,000 visitors in a single season.
• In 1959 it set a record of 640,000 seasonal visitors.

• On 2 May 1962 Keukenhof was visited by a large royal party including Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom.
• In 1965 a record 742,000 visitors came to the park and by 1967 it reached 800,000 visitors in a season.
• Keukenhof received its 7 millionth visitor in May 1964 – a Mrs J. Houter from Bergen (Netherlands).
• Keukenhof had its 10 millionth visitor in May 1968 – a Mrs E. Roos-van den Brandt from Amsterdam.
• In its 25th anniversary year in 1974 Keukenhof set a new season record of 907,000 visitors.
• In 1978 the record was again broken with 940,000 visitors.

• Keukenhof received its 20 millionth visitor in May 1980 – a Miss Janice Warren from England.
• Keukenhof received its 25 millionth visitor in April 1986 – a Mrs F. Maubach from Cologne, Germany.
• Keukenhof received its 35 millionth visitor in April 1998 – a Mrs Pauline Emslie from Newcastle, England.
• Keukenhof received a total of just over 36 million visitors in the 20th century (1950-1999).
• In 1999, to mark its 50th anniversary Keukenhof also held a 7 hectare summer flower festival called Zomerhof which ran 19 August to 19 September. It was only held 2 more times.

• In 2014 Keukenhof reached the 1,000,000 visitors mark for the first time.
• Keukenhof received its 50 millionth visitor in 2015.
• 2019 was the all-time record year with 1,540,000 visitors to Keukenhof.
• Since 2000 Keukenhof has had 25 million visitors and counting.
• Keukenhof has welcomed around 62.2 million visitors between 1950 and 2026.

In 2026, an entrance ticket to Keukenhof is €21.00 for adults, €10.00 for children 4-17. Free entry for children 0-3.

Let’s look back at some historic entry prices for Keukenhof. Bear in mind that prior to 2002 the Dutch Guilder (f,-) was used. We will give the equivalent price in euros but we won’t account for inflation – which is the main reason for the price increases.

• In 1953 Keukenhof entrance was 1 guilder – roughly equivalent to €0.45.
• In 1957 Keukenhof entrance was 1.50 guilders (€0.68).
• In 1960 Keukenhof entrance was 2 guilders (€0.90).
• In 1973 Keukenhof entrance was 4 guilders (€1.80).

• In 1984 Keukenhof entrance was 8 guilders (€3.60).
• In 2001 (last year of the guilder), Keukenhof entrance was 20 guilders (€9.10).
• In 2002 (first year of the euro), a Keukenhof entrance ticket cost €11.
• In 2010 Keukenhof entrance was €14.

Some museums only offer rounded-up figures rather than exact numbers. More details on specific museum sources below.

1. Rijksmuseum

The Rijksmuseum is the most important museum in the Netherlands. Its rich collection includes paintings from renowned Dutch masters Rembrandt, Johannes Vermeer, Frans Hals and Jan Steen. It has some 80 rooms displaying no less than 8,000 works of art and historical objects.

The Rijksmuseum is consistently ranked number 1 as the most visited museum in Amsterdam.

In 2024 Rijksmuseum had 2.4 million visitors – the 3rd best year on record which included the Frans Hals exhibition in the spring.

It was slightly down from the record 2.7 million visitors in 2023 – mainly due to the incredible popularity of that year’s Vermeer exhibition which attracted 650,000 visitors.

Around 903,000 (38%) of the 2024 Rijksmuseum visitors were Netherlands residents. US visitors accounted for 12% of the visits whilst France and Germany made up 7% each.

445,000 visitors (19%) were children – not surprising as the Rijksmuseum offers free entry children aged 0-18.

2. Van Gogh Museum

The Van Gogh Museum has the world’s largest collection of paintings from infamous Dutch artist Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890).

Van Gogh Museum received 1,842,742 visitors in 2024 – a 9% increase on 2023.

A current cap in visitor numbers is in place (via timeslot bookings) which has meant attendance is slightly down on the years 2016-2019 when annual visitors exceeded 2 million.

The Van Gogh Museum has a more international visitor base than the Rijksmuseum. It is incredibly popular with American visitors with over 265,000 US residents (14.4%) visiting the museum in 2024.

In comparison, 330,000 (18%) of the 2024 visitors were from the Netherlands.

After this the most popular other countries were Italy (7.3%), UK (7.0%), France (6.3%), Germany (5.8%), Spain (3.1%), Brazil (1.7%), Canada (1.7%) and Belgium (1.4%).

3. Anne Frank House

The Anne Frank House Museum is the house on Prinsengracht, Amsterdam in which the young girl Anne Frank (1929-1945) and seven others hid in a secret annex during the German occupation in WW2. It was here where Anne wrote her world-famous diary which was published after her death.

The Anne Frank House Museum received nearly 1,208,327 million visitors in 2024 – about the same as in 2023.

This is close to the record 1.3 million visitors the museum had in 2019. With the relatively small size of the museum the Anne Frank House is probably close to its capacity.

4. NEMO Science Museum

The NEMO Science Museum is a very popular science and technology museum located in green building designed by Renzo Piano. It is primarily aimed at children and attracts a lot of school groups.

There are hands-on science-themed exhibitions over 4 floors with shows and demonstrations. There is a large roof terrace (free entry) which offers good views of Amsterdam.

NEMO received 639,196 visitors in 2024, down around 12% on the record year of 2023 when visitors went over 700,000 for the first time.

5. MOCO Museum

The MOCO Museum is an independent contemporary art museum opened in 2016. It is best known for featuring works by UK street artist Banksy and other contemporary artists. MOCO is located in the Villa Alsberg townhouse on Museumplein, nextdoor to the Van Gogh Museum.

In a relatively short time the MOCO has established itself as a popular Amsterdam visitor attraction and is firmly placed in the museum top 5.

MOCO Museum received an impressive 610,228 visitors in 2024, down about 21% from the record year of 769,324 in 2023.

6. Stedelijk

The Stedelijk Museum is a Amsterdam’s modern and contemporary art museum. The permanent collection includes pre-war works, avant-garde, De Stijl and pop-art.

Visitor numbers came in at 574,244 in 2024, a decrease of nearly 5% on 2023. Visitor numbers are significantly below the 2014 record of 816,000.

7. Royal Palace Amsterdam

The Royal Palace Amsterdam (Koninklijk Paleis) is the palace building on Dam Square which was built as Amsterdam Town Hall in the 17th century.

The palace is open to the public and its remarkable 30m high Citizen’s Hall (Burgerzaal) contains the largest maps in the world.

The Royal Palace received 312,236 visitors in 2024, an increase of 3% from 2023.

In 2024 the Palace was open for 240 days of the calendar year. Visitors were split as 33% Netherlands residents and 67% foreign residents.

Interestingly Royal Palace published for 2024 that 52,318 (17%) were children aged under 18 and 43,024 visitors (14%) entered using a Museumkaart – both groups can enter for free.

8. Scheepvaart Museum

The Dutch National Maritime Museum (Scheepvaartmuseum) is found in the eastern docklands area of Amsterdam. This modern museum presents Dutch maritime history and includes the probably the world’s finest collection of atlases and globes.

The Scheepvaartmuseum received 298,483 visitors in 2024, an increase of 5% from 2022.

We include only actual museum visitors as the museum also publishes visitor nubers to events/meetings.

9. Rembrandt House Museum

The Rembrandt House Museum is the house in Amsterdam where renowned Dutch painter Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669) lived and worked.

It contains an excellent collection of Rembrandt etchings and holds temporary exhibitions of other Dutch artists from the Golden Age period.

The Rembrandt House Museum welcomed 227,781 visitors in 2024, up very slightly from 2023 but down from the record year of 2019.

Some 12.3% of visitors entered for free in 2024 with a Museumkaart.

10. STRAAT Museum

STRAAT Museum is a street art museum located in a former shipping warehouse at NDSM-wharf in Amsterdam.

STRAAT only opened in 2020 but has quickly become one of the most visited museums in Amsterdam.

In 2024 it received a record 220,000 visitors, up around 10% on the 2023 figures.

11. H’ART Museum (formerly Hermitage)

The H’ART Museum is a major museum in Amsterdam allied to the British Museum in London, Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

It was formerly named Hermitage Amsterdam, but the museum cut ties with the State Hermitage in Russia in 2022 and rebranded to H’ART in September 2023.

H’ART Museum received 196,000 visitors in 2024, an increase of 55% from 2023.

12. Nieuwe Kerk

The Nieuwe Kerk (New Church) is the main church in Amsterdam located on Dam Square in the heart of the city. It is used for state functions and is an exhibition space hosting a major exhibition in the winter/spring as well as the annual World Press Photo in early summer.

Nieuwe Kerk had 145,000 visitors in 2024, a 13% decrease from 2023. Due to renovation, no major exhibition was held over the winter 2024-25.

13. Wereldmuseum Amsterdam

The Wereldmuseum Amsterdam (formerly Tropenmuseum) is an ethnographic museum contains fascinating exhibitions on many non-Western cultures.

It is located in the eastern Plantage neighbourhood of Amsterdam just outside the city centre.

Wereldmuseum Amsterdam had 124,177 visitors in 2024, a decrease of 17% from the 2023 figure.

14. Verzetsmuseum

The Verzets Resistance Museum chronicles the Dutch resistance movement during the entirety of World War 2. It is located opposite Artis Zoo in the Plancius building.

The museum had 119,382 visitors in 2024, up around 5% from 2023.

Note, the total published figure includes 1,300 visitors who underwent ‘educational activities at an external location’. The net figure is 118,082 visitors if we take those off.

15. Oudekerk

Amsterdam’s Old Church is open to visitors and hosts regular contemporary art exhibitions and installations. It happens to be the oldest building in Amsterdam with origins to the 13th century.

It received 105,400 visitors in 2024, just up very slightly from the 2023 figures.

16. National Holocaust Museum

The Dutch National Holocaust Museum in Amsterdam opened in March 2024 with exhibits about the holocaust in World War 2.

It had 105,123 visitors in 2024.

It is part of the Jewish Cultural Quarter which received a total of 309,495 visitors including 85,708 visitors at the Jewish Museum, 73,227 visitors at the Portuguese Synagogue and 45,437 visitors at Hollandsche Schouwburg.

17. Ons’ Lieve Heer op Solder Museum

The Ons’ Lieve Heer Op Solder (Our Lord in the Attic) is a canal-side house museum in Amsterdam with a hidden Catholic church in its attic.

It welcomed 104,002 visitors in 2024, up 2% from 2023.

Amsterdam Museum Visitor Numbers: Special notes

FOAM Museum Amsterdam no longer releases official visitor numbers to the public. We did ask the museum but they did not provide a figure. We estimate figures of around 160,000 visitors to the museum.

In this listing we also are not considering visitor numbers to various attractions in Amsterdam.

For example ARTIS (1,272,515 visitors in 2024) and A’DAM Lookout (615,000 visitors in 2024) would each have made the top 6.
