De Culinaire Werkplaats - Creative vegetarian restaurant concept using either organic, local, fair-trade or small-scale produce. Artistic dishes have surprising combinations. De Kas - Unique restaurant setting in a converted greenhouse at Frankandael Park in the south-east of Amsterdam. Part organic, they grow their own veg and other food is locally sourced. A good place for a special occasion. Kamerlingh Onneslaan 3, T: 020-4624562
De Oranjerie (The Orangery) - Museum café in the Orangery building (1875) at Hortus botanical gardens - note, you need to pay admission to enter the gardens. The café serves a selection of organic drinks and snacks which are locally sourced. Plantage Middenlaan 2a, T: 020-6259021
De Oude Melkfabriek (The Old Milk Factory) - Popular grand café at the Sportsworld gym complex in east Amsterdam. Menu of fresh, healthy dishes with some organic ingredients. Located at Oranje Vrijstaatkade 21, T: 020-6630903
De Peper - A legalised squat with organic kitchen open on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday evening, open from 1800, food served 1900-2030. Staffed by volunteers. Food is organic and vegan, note there is no table service. Reservations can be made on the evening 1600-1900 (T: 020-4122954). You are expected to pay between €7-€10 for a soup and main, desserts are €1.50 extra. Located at Overtoom 301.
De Vliegende Schotel (The Flying Saucer) - Veggie restaurant with international menu which is mainly organic and inspired by Ayurvedic principles. Good value basic dishes. Friendly and relaxed. De Waaghals (The Dare Devil) - Veggie, mainly-organic restaurant in De Pijp not far from the Heineken brewery. Menu changes regularly with the dish of the month focussed on a specific country. Linvité le Restaurant - Highly rated French restaurant offering original and light dishes using fresh and organic produce. The chef's focus is on using less salt, sugar and fat.
