Moco Museum - Modern Contemporary Art

The Moco (Modern Contemporary) Museum Amsterdam is a new independently funded museum located on Museumplein next-door to the Van Gogh museum.

Opened in April 2016, Moco is Amsterdam's latest museum and plans to bring exhibitions featuring major protagonists and pioneers of the modern art world.

The museum is located in the Villa Alsberg townhouse on Museumplein. This building dates from 1904 and was designed by Dutch architect Eduard Cuypers, cousin of the iconic Pierre Cuypers who designed the nearby Rijksmuseum and also Amsterdam Central Station.

The house was a family home until 1939, was then used by priests teaching at the Saint Nicolas school and subsequently became the offices of a law firm.

The Moco museum was founded by Lionel and Kim Logchies, owners of the Lionel Gallery in Amsterdam. The couple specialise in art from the likes of Banksy, Keith Haring, Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, Picasso and Salvador Dali.

The opening exhibitions are Banksy: Laugh Now which has some 50 works by the street artist - the first time his work has been exhibited in a museum. This includes the Beanfield work and the SWAT van. Extended run until 31 Oct 2017.

The Dalí: Genius exhibition (which replaced the opening Warhol exhibition) on the lower ground floor has also been extended to 31 Oct 2017.

Moco is also available for private hire in the evenings for meetings and functions.

The Moco museum is a welcome addition and alternative to the big 3 museums (Van Gogh, Rijksmuseum and Stedelijk) on Museumplein.
