CitizenM Amsterdam Airport Hotel Review
We recently stayed 1 night at the CitizenM Amsterdam Airport before an early flight at Schiphol. The hotel is located conveniently about 5 minutes walk from the terminal - come out of the station hall and turn right and follow the signs. There is a covered walkway most of the way though there are a couple of roads to cross. |
Check-in/check-out is quick and automated - it is done using one of the touch screen terminals in the lobby which will activate your room card. There was a member of staff on-hand (known as an "ambassador") to help people with this procedure. The lobby has a 24 hour canteen and lounge area which sells basic snacks such as salads, wraps and sandwiches. At night there is a bar service selling beer, spirits and cocktails. We can't comment on food / beverages as we did not consume any due to a 5 am early check-out.
The room itself is a very compact rectangular block of just 14 square metres. Because of the shape there is no separate bathroom - there is a toilet and a "rain" shower housed in cylindrical pods in the middle of the room - even with the privacy screens, this could be a problem if you are sharing the room with someone you don't know too well.
Fittings are modern and hi-spec with a large, comfy king bed against the window, mood lighting with different settings and a Philips touch screen pad to control lights, blinds, TV etc. The hotel also has free wifi internet.
The
good:
Very convenient for early Schiphol flights.
Price (from around
€80) is reasonable and a lot cheaper than the Sheraton and Hilton, the other
2 airport hotels.
Very good spec fittings.
The not-so-good:
Quite
a small space for 2 people with 2 large cases.
The Philips touch pad we had
seemed to brightly flash every so often during the night and we had to cover it
to get some sleep!
Not much of a view of the airport from our room (from the
top floor air side you will get a limited view of the budget H gates)
We would definitely recommend staying here before flying out of Schiphol and it is certainly a unique hotel concept to experience. Some people do base themselves here for short visits to Amsterdam which is only a 15 minute train ride from the airport station. For longer stays though it would probably be better to stay in the centre.
CitizenM has another property near Amsterdam Zuid station - which could be interesting for business travellers visiting that area or the Amsterdam RAI convention centre.
