For a quirky ride or tour around town with an Amsterdam twist then consider hiring one of the city's eco-friendly bike taxi rickshaws - known in Dutch as fietstaxi or wielertaxis.
There are around 100 bike taxis in Amsterdam and the drivers are regulated by the city council.
Whilst many bike taxis are freelancers the 2 main companies in the city are Wielertaxi and Amsterdam Bike Taxi.
The special cycle machines are built to a high standard and each bike can take up to 2 adult passengers - though young children can sit on the lap of travelling adults. Drivers should be able to speak fluent English.
The bike taxis have their main rank at the north side of Dam Square between the ABN Amro bank branch and the Dam tram stop. They can also be found at some of Amsterdam's other main squares.
For up to 2 people, Wielertaxi charges €10 for 15 minutes travel and €20 for 30 minutes - they operate daily between 0900 to 0600. They can also offer private hire (€35 for 30 minutes, €50 for 60 minutes) or special group arrangements with up to 25 bike taxi vehicles provided at any location in Netherlands.
