Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam - Located in a 17th century grand canal palace on Herengracht, the Waldorf Astoria opened in 2014. 93 elegant rooms with modern amenities and spacious bathrooms, beautiful suites and loft rooms, free WiFi, spectacular courtyard garden and fine dining in-house (3 Michelin star restaurant De Librije). A great choice for an extra special occasion.
Hyatt Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht - 5-star hotel and first Hyatt in Netherlands. 122 room property on the Prinsengracht canal, close to the Jordaan district. With beautiful features by local designer Marcel Wanders, an urban spa and in-house lounge/restaurant it offers visitors luxury and a relaxed ambience. For a splurge consider the 140m2 Prinsengracht Suite which has a stunning private roof terrace.
Hotel De L'Europe - Elegant, grand hotel in the very heart of the city (near Muntplein and the flower market). Luxurious rooms are tastefully decorated and well equipped - with iPads, free WiFi and a Nespresso coffee machine. Great bathrooms with heated marble floors. Canal side rooms have fine views. Facilities include a fitness centre and swimming pool, in-house restaurants and Freddy's Bar which hosts a live pianist.
Sofitel Legend The Grand - Set in a historic building with courtyard and gardens, located in the city centre quite close to Dam Square. Spacious, luxuriously appointed rooms with Hermès toiletries, Nespresso coffee machine and very comfortable beds. Hotel offers great service, indoor pool/spa and the renowned Bridges restaurant.
Hotel Okura - Excellent choice located in a 23-storey tower just south of the city centre in the de Pijp district. Also convenient for Amsterdam RAI and Zuidas business district. The hotel has spacious, well-appointed rooms with some hi-tech touches. Upper floor rooms provide super views over Amsterdam. Great breakfast, in-house Michelin star restaurant, the Okura often has very competitive room rates for a 5-star hotel.
Grand Hotel Amrath - Set in a beautiful art nouveau building (The Shipping House) quite close to central station, this hotel has large, luxurious rooms with high ceilings and some very good facilities including stunning indoor pool. Many rooms offer nice views over the surrounding area. Free mini-bar and WiFi. Friendly staff.
Hotel Pulitzer - Charming 5-star hotel on the Prinsengracht canal close to the Anne Frank house. Now part of the Preferred Hotels & Resorts' LVX Collection. Made up of adjoining houses giving the property a unique feel and means the elegant rooms can vary in dimension. Great service. The hotel was featured in the 2004 film Ocean's Twelve.
Amstel Intercontinental - Luxurious, grand hotel on the river Amstel, just east of the centre. Classic decor in rooms with spacious bathrooms. Glass atrium and terrace on the river side and in-house Michelin star restaurant (La Rive). The old world charm may not be everyone's cup of tea and by no means cheap but probably the most exclusive address in town.
Bilderberg Garden Hotel - Located in a quiet residential district in the south of Amsterdam, trams 5/24 provide easy access to the centre. Also convenient for Amsterdam RAI/Zuid. Decent, well-appointed rooms with evening turn-down service, good breakfast selection. Reasonable rates can be found in advance.
Hilton Amsterdam - The Hilton is in a residential area in the south of Amsterdam. Large, comfortable rooms, excellent breakfast, good views from upper floor rooms and executive lounge. Pleasant canal-side outdoor terrace. Room 702 is where John Lennon and Yoko Ono held their week long "Bed-In" peace protest - the 50m2 John and Yoko suite comes with a king-bed, Egyptian bed linen and is decorated with memorabilia.
Marriot Amsterdam - Large Marriot hotel near Leidseplein square and a short walk from the Museum quarter and Vondelpark. Comfortable rooms, good buffet breakfast. Airport bus 197 stops nearby.
Renaissance Hotel - Marriot property with excellent location on a quiet road just a few minutes walk away from central station. Also a popular 5-star choice for those arriving by cruise ship at the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam. Modern rooms are reasonable size with elegant decor. Friendly staff. Try to get the Club Lounge access included in your rate which offers breakfast and evening snacks and drinks.
Conservatorium Hotel - This relatively new hotel occupies a beautiful building (former Conservatorium) opposite the Stedelijk and Van Gogh museums. Surrounding area also includes Vondelpark and high-end shops. Beautiful lobby, stylish rooms with modern decor and hi-tech controls.
Art 'Otel - A 5-star hotel located very near Amsterdam Central station. The well-equipped rooms are contemporary and stylish and include free WiFi. The hotel has its own art gallery, swimming pool, library, lounge and concept restaurant. Breakfast is complementary.
NH Barbizon Palace - Convenient location just across the road from Amsterdam central station and near the Chinatown district. Comfortable rooms though looking a little dated. Free WiFi, friendly staff.
NH Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky - The Krasnapolsky is found on Dam square, in the heart of the centre. Refurbished rooms are stylish and modern, though some other rooms have a more dated feel. Very good breakfast buffet taken in the striking Winter Garden room.
