Hermitage Amsterdam
Amsterdam’s newly renovated major museum gives you the last chance to see “At The Russian Court – Palace and Protocol in the 19th Century”. This exhibition ends January 31st 2010.

Huis Marseille
Edward Burtynsky / Oil –
Fascinating photo exhibition documenting many aspects of the oil industry and man’s love affair with petrochemicals. Runs to February 28th.

Van Gogh Museum
Alfred Stevens (1823-1906) retrospective exhibition. Runs to January 24th 2010. Paul Gaugin exhibition starts February 19th.

Amsterdam Historical Museum
The Sixties NOW!” – A variety of exhibitions looking back at the revolutionary 1960s decade. Includes photos of the occupation of the Maagdenhuis. Runs to February 7th 2010.

Tropenmuseum
The Dono Code” – Exhibition from Indonesian artist Heri Dono.
Runs to February 28th 2010.
The Art of Survival” – Maroon culture from Suriname.
Runs throughout January and February (ends May 2010).

Brueghel in Business” – Small exhibit of the 16th century Brueghel brothers. To February 22nd 2010.

Nieuwe Kerk (New Church)
Oman: Cultural exhibition with 250 objects.

Made in Britain” – various designer bags on show from UK.
Ends February 21st 2010.

Dutch Resistance Museum
Season ‘40-’45” – Football during World War II. English translation cards available. Exhibition runs to April 2010.

Jewish Historical Museum
A Master Revealed” – Meijer de Haan (1852-1895) – Dutch artist retrospective. Runs until January 24th 2010.
Sonia Gaskell” – Exhibition on the life of this dancer and choreographer who lived in Amsterdam. Ends January 31st 2010.

Amsterdam: Capital of Finance” exhibition.

1989. The End of an era” – Exhibition on how the press reported the fall of the Iron Curtain 20 years ago. Until February 28th 2010.

Museumnacht 2009 – Museum Night Amsterdam

This coming Saturday 7th November in Amsterdam will be the 10th annual museum night or “Museumnacht“. Special events will be taking place between 1900 and 0200 in 42 participating museums in the city, including all the major ones like Van Gogh museum, Rijksmuseum, Anne Frankhuis etc.

The program includes live music and other artistic performances, fashion shows, films, workshops, DJs and chill out rooms, cocktail bars and various eating options.

1 Museumnacht ticket costs €17,50 for entry to the 42 museums between 1900 and 0200 – available for purchase at Free Record shops, Post Offices, the “VVV” Tourist Information or online at ticketservice.nl.

Note, if there are any tickets left on the night they will be on sale at the Ticketshop on Leidseplein for €20. You won’t be able to buy tickets at the museums.

The ticket includes free use of public transport (buses, trams, night buses) from1800 Sat to 0600 Sun. You will also get free entry to 1 museum up until December 31st 2009.

Ticket holders will get discounts at one of 9 clubs holding after parties (including Paradiso and Melkweg).
