Metz & CO is a high-end department store which was situated on the corner of Leidsestraat and the Keizersgracht canal in Amsterdam.
On the sixth floor Metz had quite a chic café / restaurant which gave some excellent panoramic views over central Amsterdam.
SPECIAL NOTE: Metz has moved its department store to a new, smaller location (Leidsestraat 1-3) so MCafé has closed down. The previous store location has been taken over by US retailer Abercrombie & Fitch. It is not known if a new café will re-open.
The building was originally owned by New York Life Insurance Company - Metz & CO store moved into the building in 1890. You can see the large windows of the old top-floor cafe (photo, below left) which was accessible by lift.
The location offered one of the best panoramic vantage points over Amsterdam with clean views over the Keizersgracht canal and further south and west.
