De Jaren is one of Amsterdam's best grand cafés.
Situated right in the heart of the city centre just off Muntplein, De Jaren is a very popular meeting point for students, locals and visitors alike and is usually buzzing with atmosphere.
Opened in 1990, the cafe is light and spacious being spread out over 2 floors with high ceilings. It also has outer terraces overlooking the Amstel and its own jetty. On the ground floor there is a reading table with wide choice of international newspapers and magazines; upstairs there is a reasonably priced restaurant with salad bar. Free WiFi internet is available.
When really busy it can be difficult to get a table and the service can be a little hit and miss but overall this cafe is a great spot for people watching.
Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner, 0830 to 0100 (Fri and Sat closes 0200)
