Hostels in Amsterdam
Amsterdam has a wide number of hostels and cheap accommodation to suit the visitor on a budget.
Generator has a large, contemporary hostel (opened 2016) with capacity for 564 guests. It is located near Oosterpark on the east side of Amsterdam in a former zoological university building. Book the Generator Amsterdam here
Some hostels in the city centre are more for the younger, party crowd (such as the Flying Pig or St Christopher's Inn). There is a well rated female-only hostel called Hostelle located near Amsterdam Bijlmer-ArenA station (south-east of the city).
The local Hostelling International "YHA" organisation in Netherlands is called Stayokay.
There are 3 Stayokay hostels in Amsterdam: (1) Stadsdoelen which is a canal house located in the city centre - pictured below right; (2) Vondelpark, a large hostel (500+ beds) literally on the edge of the park; and (3) Zeeburg, a modern hostel in a suburb of east Amsterdam - pictured below left. Stayokay offers dorm beds and private rooms and include a basic breakfast.
Dormitory beds (ie shared) generally cost from about €15 to €30 per night whilst a private room will cost from €40 and upwards.
