Amsterdam is a compact city and most of its main sights and attractions can be reached easily on foot.

One of the highlights of any visit to the historic centre of Amsterdam is taking in the picturesque canals and the grand 17th century merchant houses, perhaps visiting some world-class museums, exploring the countless little independent shops and boutiques. Or spending a warm summer's afternoon relaxing in Vondelpark, the green heart of the city.

Below are a couple of our short walk suggestions which will take you outside the traditional tourist centre.

Also, with Amsterdam being the city of canals you should certainly take a "rondvaart" glass-top boat tour. Or go 'local' and rent a bicycle to explore further afield...
