Amsterdam Tips > Amsterdam Excursions
Amsterdam is great for a short city-break and there are plenty of things to see and do. If you are here a bit longer then you should consider getting away from the Amsterdam tourist trail and seeing other parts of the Netherlands - something which many visitors miss out on. From historic cities and towns, cycling in national parks to exploring the coastline. |
The other Randstad cities of Rotterdam, Den Haag (The Hague) and Utrecht can be easily reached by train within an hour as can the smaller cities Leiden, Gouda, Haarlem and Delft. You could check out the fishing villages of Volendam and Enkhuizen, go to the beach at Zandvoort or Bloemendaal, take a drive across the 32km Afsluitdijk ("Closing Dike") or head to the Hoge Veluwe National Park. |
|
Further afield you could visit the northern city of Groningen or Maastricht in the south. Even Antwerp in Belguim and Cologne or Dusseldorf in Germany could be done as a day trip.
